About this Project
This living room combines elegant details with comfortable furnishings to create a welcoming family-friendly space. Our design inspiration for this space began with the fireplace. The original fireplace had no presence and blended into the adjacent walls, all of which were painted in a yellowish-white builder-basic paint colour. To give the fireplace substance we added a beautiful honed marble stone, which we carried from floor to ceiling. We chose a deep smoky-blue paint colour as the backdrop, which allows the fireplace to stand out. The fireplace wall is now the beautiful focal point of this room.
We choose a timeless blue, grey and silver colour scheme. We painted the remaining walls a soft warm grey to compliment the greyish-taupe tones in the natural veining of the marble on the fireplace. The deep smoky-blue colour of the accent wall was carried onto the custom square tufted ottoman. The tufting adds classic elegance, while the soft upholstered edges offer a child-friendly solution for the homeowner's toddlers. Blue throw pillows and a collection of large blue vases continue the accent colour throughout the space. At the homeowner's request, we worked with her existing leather sofas. We added silver accents throughout the room with accessories, the new chrome and glass side tables, and the show-stopping tall silver wing-backed arm chair. Finally, we took inspiration from the interlocking circle shaped base of the accent side table. This interlocking circle motif was carried throughout the room in the pattern on the throw pillows, the wall-hung mirrors on either side of the fireplace, and the silver orbit table-top sculptures. This welcoming living room is now a space that the whole family can enjoy.
